Yvonne Mortimer-Wang

Yvonne Mortimer-Wang has over 12 years’ experience in litigation with expertise in commercial (“white-collar”) crime, civil fraud, proceeds of crime, regulatory and professional disciplinary proceedings.

She acts for clients in criminal and civil proceedings at all levels of courts. She is equally comfortable and experienced with acting as the sole or lead counsel, as well as working together with senior counsel from across leading sets in New Zealand.

Yvonne has appeared as counsel representing the New Zealand Bar Association and the New Zealand Law Society in notable cases, as well as having been appointed as counsel to assist the High Court and the Supreme Court in various cases.

Yvonne is a senior prosecutor on the Serious Fraud Office prosecution panel. She has also been appointed by Crown Law as counsel acting in civil litigation.

Yvonne co-chairs the Law Reform and Justice Committee of the New Zealand Bar Association. She is a board member of New Zealand Asian Lawyers, and co-chairs its Litigation Committee. She is a lawyer member of the Practice Approval Committee for the New Zealand Law Society.

Born in Shanghai (China), and educated both there and in New Zealand, Yvonne is bilingual and professionally proficient in the use of English and Chinese.

Yvonne has a double degree in Law and Commerce (Finance) from the University of Auckland and a Master of Public and International Law from the University of Melbourne with First Class Honours.

Yvonne was an Arthur Watts Fellowship intern at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (London) and an Inner Temple Pegasus Scholar (London). She is the recipient of a Michael & Suzanne Borrin Foundation grant for an ongoing project on Asian Civil Litigants in the New Zealand Courts.
