Katie Hogan KC
Katie is a leading criminal trial lawyer with particular expertise in the Criminal Proceeds regime. She was appointed King’s Counsel in 2025 and has more than 19 years’ trial experience, including in the most serious and complex cases.
Her seniority is recognised nationally, with regular invitations to present on statute, evidence, procedure and advocacy. She is faculty on the NZLS Litigation Skills Programme and is appointed to a number of government prosecution panels, including the Serious Fraud Office, Commerce Commission, WorkSafe and Auckland Council.
Katie’s practice includes:
Criminal trials and appeals (including murder, manslaughter, sexual violation, class A drug dealing, money laundering, fraud, organised criminal groups, and related bail, sentencing and name suppression matters).
Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act work, including asset and profit forfeiture proceedings, opposed trials, appellate work and significant settlements.
Regulatory prosecutions and pecuniary penalties, including under the Health and Safety at Work Act, AML/CFT Act and Commerce Act.
Other litigation, including extradition, investigations, tort claims and judicial review.
Katie is approved for criminal legal aid (all levels) and civil legal aid.
Katie is a member of the Criminal Bar Association, New Zealand Bar Association, South Auckland Bar Association and Auckland Women Lawyers’ Association. She serves on the NZ Bar Association Criminal Committee.
